Released in 2017 as the companion to 2014’s Songs of Innocence, U2’s Songs of Experience is the band’s 14th studio album, drawing inspiration from William Blake’s poetry collection of the same name. It is a mature, reflective, and deeply personal album, heavily influenced by a “brush with mortality” experienced by Bono in 2016, which compelled him to write the songs as intimate letters to his loved ones—family, friends, fans, and himself.
